Celebrate Love: The Princess's Wedding - An Enchanting Akan Story
from Mythopia · host Konlan Mikpekoah
# The Princess and the WolfIn an Asante village of Ghana, Princess Yaa prepared to marry a suitable prince from a neighboring village. Though her betrothed was kind and loyal, the spoiled princess considered him boring and not wealthy enough. She openly told her maids she might seek a rich admirer after marriage, as she craved luxury and jewels. When she asked her father to support her future husband financially, he refused, teaching that riches weren't life's most important aspect. On her wedding day, a handsome stranger arrived on horseback, adorned in silks, velvet, and precious gems. He claimed to be a prince from a distant land seeking the princess's hand. Dazzled by his apparent wealth, Princess Yaa demanded to marry him instead. Despite her parents' protests and the king's warning that choosing the stranger would result in banishment, the greedy princess chose the magnificent stranger over her intended husband. After traveling for hours beyond her kingdom's borders, the princess noticed the stranger's servants had vanished. Deep in a dark forest, her "prince" revealed his true nature with a wicked smile. He wasn't a prince at all but a creature named Wolf who would transform under the full moon—and so would she. He explained this was her punishment for choosing superficial wealth over genuine love and wisdom, for "all that glitters is not gold." The disobedient princess was cursed to live as a poor forest scavenger, transforming into a wolf each full moon, never to see her family or kingdom again—all because of her greed and disobedience.https://mythopia.io/story/59/celebrate-love-the-princess-s-wedding-an-enchanting-akan-story
