Celebrating Ash Wednesday Mass on a large shipping vessel

from Catholic Church · host Catholic Bishops' Conference of England and Wales

Masses to celebrate the start of Lent took place today all round the world. Catholics in England and Wales can quite easily find a church where Mass is offered. Not everyone is so fortunate. Seafarers spend long, hard months at sea and can go many weeks without Mass. When they find themselves docked in a port, it presents a vital opportunity to receive the Eucharist. We've just had some audio back from a ship anchored in the port of Milford Haven on the West coast of Wales. The port chaplain had just finished celebrating the second of two Masses for the crew onboard and sent this reflection.
