Celebrating Esther

Most of us are familiar with the book of Esther and the famous verse “who knows whether you have come to the kingdom for such a time as this?” But few of us understand the true significance of this story. The Persian empire was so large it housed the vast majority of Jews in the world. Therefore, Haman’s plan of annihilation was an existential threat to the Jewish people. Had he succeeded there would have been no Jews to birth the Messiah to die on our behalf.
