from The Aaron Hill Podcast · host The Aaron Hill Podcast

Celebrating Others' Success (10% Happier Self Care Journey) 3/12/20 Sympathetic Joy - the feeling which arises when one regards all beings  (beginning with oneself and one's own family and friends but not  stopping there) with loving-kindness and then perceives those who are  happy and have created a lot of merit or even attained liberative  insight. Mudita (Hindi) - means joy; especially sympathetic or vicarious joy. Also: the pleasure that comes from delighting in other people's well-being.[1] The traditional paradigmatic example of this mind-state is the attitude  of a parent observing a growing child's accomplishments and  successes.[2] Mudita should not be confused with pride, as a person  feeling mudita may not have any interest or direct income from the  accomplishments of the other. Mudita is a pure joy unadulterated by  self-interest. When we can be happy of the joys other beings feel, it is called mudita; the opposite word is invidia Compersion - an empathetic state of happiness and joy experienced when  another individual experiences happiness and joy. ... It is commonly  used to describe when a person experiences positive feelings when a  lover is enjoying another relationship. It is an opposite of jealousy. - One goal is to get rid of the following negative narratives and assumptions. 1. Happiness is a limited commodity in this world. The more someone else has the less there's going to be for me. 2. Others have everything (and they always will) and I have nothing (and I always will). 3. Others always steal or intercept the lime light, rewards, accolades from me. (Competition and lack mindset) - Practice visualizing, meditating on and celebrating people who are  achieving in life in various ways and experiencing great levels of  happiness. You can do this by mentally directing thoughts and phrases of  loving-kindness toward them as well as physically and verbally  expressing your sentiments to them as well as celebrating with them in  various ways.
