Celebrations and Recalling Events

Hello everyone! My name is Ramona María Garrido Saballe. This is for the Ingles II course, Weeks 7 and 8. My teacher’s name is Olga Andrea Pedroza Rojas. The title of this assignment is: Podcast: Celebrations and Recalling Events. Reflecting on the past, thirty years ago, life was completely different. We used to gather at my parents’ house every single time. We were very happy with the little things we had, although we did not appreciate it at that moment. Everything changed after my father died; he was the pillar who kept the family united. Nowadays, we are not the same. We don't share or talk as much as we used to, and sometimes we don't even miss each other. However, even though we are distanced, the love and protection we felt back then still remain between us. the 'Mingas.' Every Sunday, the community gathered to clean the neighborhood and collect trash. After the work, they made traditional food and panela drinks for everyone. In my family, when my father was alive, we used to go to the countryside every Sunday afternoon, right after the 'Mingas' finished. It was a sacred family plan and we shared every Sunday together. Sadly, those traditions are less common today. To paraphrase my background, the 'Mingas' symbolized solidarity and community work. In my family, the Sunday trips showed that 'sharing time is the best gift.' These cultural expressions from my neighbors and friends shaped my identity. Even if living conditions are different now, I relate these customs to the importance of unity in any community. In conclusion, recalling these memories helped me practice the Simple Past and the structure 'Used to'. It was emotional to reflect on how my father's absence changed our family dynamic. This activity helps me value the customs that shape my background. Thank you for listening!
