Cerrado: espécies em extinção.

O Cerrado tem mais de mil espécies ameaçadas de extinção. Esse é o segundo maior número entre os biomas, só atrás da Mata Atlântica. Das 3.300 espécies ameaçadas de extinção no Brasil, quase 20% estão no Cerrado, que é o segundo maior bioma do país. A Mata Atlântica abriga 25% das espécies em risco. Das espécies em risco no Cerrado, 308 são da fauna (animais) e 753 são da flora (plantas) – 88% são terrestres. “O Cerrado é um bioma muito importante. Está no centro do país, tem três grandes bacias hidrográficas que ligam outras regiões e possui uma fauna e uma flora própria”. O Cerrado perdeu 50% da cobertura nas últimas décadas em um processo intensificado, principalmente, após a construção da capital federal. A cobertura vegetal também reduziu nos últimos anos. Os biomas brasileiros perderam cerca de 500 mil km² de sua cobertura natural recentemente.  O Cerrado perdeu cerca de 153 mil km² de cobertura natural, a segunda maior perda no país. Em primeiro aparece a Amazônia – o maior bioma do Brasil, que encolheu quase 270 mil km². Somadas, as duas áreas representam  86% do total perdido em todo o país, nos últimos oito anos. Entre as espécies mais ameaçadas está o lobo-guará. Além disso, as pesquisas recentes apontam ainda que a Caatinga, teve quase 400 espécies ameaçadas. Já a região dos Pampas, tem quase 200 espécies em risco. The Cerrado has more than a thousand species threatened with extinction.
