Cezar Paul-Bădescu a studiat la Facultatea de Litere a Universității din București, unde și-a exersat scrisul alături de alți scriitori contemporani cunoscuți. A fost redactor la revista Dilema din 1996 până în 2008, unde a coordonat și un dosar controversat dedicat lui Mihai Eminescu. Din 2007, a fost şeful departamentului Cultură al ziarului Adevărul și redactorul-şef al suplimentului Adevărul literar şi artistic, până în 2011. A publicat mai mult volume, printre care "Tinereţile lui Daniel Abagiu" (Polirom, 2004, reedidare 2012) şi "Luminiţa, mon amour" (Polirom, 2006), roman care a inspirat filmul Ana, mon amour, pentru care a fost co-scenarist. În cel mai recent roman, "Frica de umbra mea" (Polirom, 2019), Cezar Paul-Bădescu explorează frica de moarte.
