Observations of Jacob Cochran's movement. A man could have seven wives. He eventually was sentenced for lewdness. After his death some people carried on with his teachings and became baptised into the LDS church. Missionairies visited Cochranite communities in New York and stayed in their homes. They moved to Nauvoo and Kirtland influencing the church. This led to the death of Joseph Smith and Hyrum Smith who were preaching against poligamy. See D&C 1835 edition 101:4
