from Pastor Jonathan’s Sermons · host jonathan althoff

Connect with me here in text… tell me where you are listening. A closed door can feel like God rejecting you, when it might be God protecting you and forming you. We start with Jacob stepping into a new morning with a limp and a new name, then connect it to Paul’s words in 2 Corinthians 3:18: we are transformed as we behold the glory of the Lord, “from glory to glory,” by the Spirit. That lens changes how we read our own uncertainty. We may not know what happens next, but something is still happening in us while we keep walking forward. We talk about why “change your mindset, change your life” is true but incomplete. Better self-talk can help you face difficulty, failure, and growth, yet lasting spiritual transformation goes deeper than phrasing. Jesus works heart first. When life is in disarray, getting your heart back on center is often the first step toward clarity, courage, and a renewed willingness to engage your calling without being crushed by it. Then we tell a vulnerable story from seminary: being told “you’re not ready,” hearing it as “your calling isn’t real,” and slowly learning that calling and readiness are not the same thing. That moment leads through Chicago, a short ten-week pastoral season, and a new start at Candler School of Theology. Along the way we wrestle with a hard truth for Christian discipleship: experience does not automatically make us mature, but the Shepherd can use every season to form Christ’s likeness in us. If you’re navigating a detour, a setback, or big questions about God’s direction, press play and sit with us in the tension. Subscribe, share this with a friend who needs steady hope, and leave a review with the question you’re learning to ask differently now. Support the show www.Turning180.com
