New season, same old Premier League chaos. The curtain has barely risen, but the opening weekend has already served up a few serious talking points. Tottenham were comprehensively beaten 3-0 by Brentford, as Spurs’ £300 million summer spending failed to paper over familiar defensive cracks, with Brentford’s intensity and pressing exposing them from the outset. Manchester United endured an even more embarrassing afternoon, beaten 2-0 by newly promoted Hull City despite dominating possession. United struggled to turn possession into genuine chances and were punished twice from set pieces.
