Loyal Books
This volume contains the principal hero-lays of the six great epic cycles of the Teutonic Middle Ages: The Langobardian Legends, the Amelung and Kindred Legends; Dietrich of Bern's Adventures; the Nibelung Legends; the Hegeling Legends; and Beowulf. To them, the author has added the great mythical Carolingian cycle, which centred round the persons of Charlemagne and his heroes, and the Breton ones of King Arthur and his Knights of the Round Table, as well as the legend of the Holy Grail. Therefore, this one book tells all of the great epic and romances of the Middle Ages in accessible language for the general public.

Beowulf is one of the greatest surviving works of Old English literature, an epic poem of heroism, loyalty, monsters, kingship, and fate. The story follows Beowulf, a warrior from Geatland who travels to Denmark to help King Hrothgar. The king’s great hall, Heorot, is being terrorized by the monstrous Grendel, who attacks at night and kills Hrothgar’s warriors. Beowulf accepts the challenge and confronts Grendel in a brutal hand-to-hand fight. His victory brings temporary peace, but a new threat soon appears: Grendel’s mother, who seeks revenge for her son’s death. Beowulf must face her in an even more dangerous battle beneath the waters of her lair. Years later, after becoming king, Beowulf encounters his final and greatest enemy—a dragon awakened by the theft of treasure from its hoard. Now an aging ruler, he must decide whether to face the creature himself, even knowing the cost may be his life. Beyond its battles, Beowulf explores deeper themes of courage
The Canon Club
Ed West & Paul Morland
The Canon Club is a show about the Western canon: the great cultural inheritance we're handed, across music, art, and literature. It was born of a blog by Ed West, in which he pined for a return to the schools of art and literary appreciation that were so famous in pre-WWI Vienna. An era when people took seriously their commitment to appreciating the art that had come before them: from Beowulf to The Divine Comedy, from Goya to Beethoven, from Brahms to Ibsen. This podcast is that latter-day Viennese salon. The Western canon is everyone's birthright, even if most of us feel under-educated in it. Paul and Ed have set out to reclaim it for themselves, and thereby transmit it to a wider audience. Ed West is a prominent British journalist, and the author of the wildly popular Wrong Side of History Substack. Paul Morland is a renowned expert in demographics, and the author of several books. In Season One, they'll be discussing one person or movement per episode: E01: Caravaggio
