Chapter 7 cont. P.48-50 The Memoirs of President Joseph Smith lll Youthful Days

Joseph Smith lll relates a story of an altercation where a man was shot in the chest and died, he reflected that the man had gone from full health and strength to instantly losing his life essence. The killer was the son in law who had reacted in self defence to his abusive father on law. This episode speaks of the killer hiding himself in some ruins of Abner Powers who he handed himself over too and was later pardoned. The episode begins with Joseph Smith lll being summoned to court to testify on behalf or Farmer Rucker about a pair of cows and dispute of their ownership. Joseph Smith lll shares that he stood his ground and would not be swayed to change his responses to the examiner. Proving this to be a quality within himself that whatever he witnessed, if he testified once, he would testify the same again. Also mentioned are memories of a fire breaking out at the mill and his help in the putting it out. Joseph Smith lll shares how he manages to endure hars work through a day by staggering his efforts and not over exerting himself to be hurried.
