Chapter Break with Mary T Wagner

from Midwest Writers Room · host Luella and Ken

BIO:Mary Wagner is a Wisconsin writer living in Sheboygan, and an award-winning essayist and children’s book author. She has been playfully compared to “Erma Bombeck…but in sexier shoes,” and described as “the Midwest’s answer to Carrie Bradshaw.” Wagner’s writing career started with reporting for both of Milwaukee’s major newspapers, and then shifted to magazine freelancing as she raised a young family. A serious accident triggered a change of direction, and she entered law school at the age of forty, becoming a prosecuting attorney for the state. Her love for writing never left, however, and since 2008 she has crafted several essay collections; the Finnigan the Circus Cat series of chapter books for young readers; and now this humorous guide to understanding British detective-speak! SYNOPSIS: Of Bairns and Wheelie Bins is a light-hearted guide to understanding what our favorite British TV detectives are saying while solving crimes across the pond. It is designed to help every American fan of Britbox crime dramas who longs for a second set of subtitles to interpret the slang and idioms that turn up in the first set. The book shines a light on such turns of phrase as “on the lash,” “playing away” and “having a barney,” as well as stooshies, fly-tipping, boffins and selling a pup. As one Goodreads reviewer put it, “this book is a must to have by your recliner!”LINKS:Website: http://www.marytwagner.com/
