Chapter Break with Steven Salmon

from Midwest Writers Room · host Luella and Ken

BIO:Steven has severe cerebral palsy. Morse code is how he writes using his head since he is unable to use his hands. Steven has a Bachelor of Science with a writing minor from the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point and a Liberal Arts degree from Madison College. He is a client of The Purcell Agency. His books, It's A New Life! Mom Is Gone and I Found Love is available on Amazon. Currently, Steven is writing a romance novel about meeting and living with a woman. He lives independently in Madison, Wisconsin with his cat, Lindy.SYNOPSIS:The novel portrays Caleb's sacrifice and love for his older disabled brother Troy, as the caregiving chores rest more and more on Caleb’s shoulders. Caleb’s life changes drastically when his severely depressed father attempts to kill himself in a truck wreck. Unfortunately, this was one of his father’s many suicide attempts, but this time Caleb’s older, disabled brother Troy was a passenger. Shocked and saddened by how severe their father’s depression has become, the family cannot manage the ups and downs of this illness. The dad eventually moves out of the family home, and while life is less stressful without him around, it now means Caleb must take care of Troy while his mom works. The novel carefully shows the difficulty of caring for a disabled family member as well as the push and pull of the relationship between the two brothers. Caleb loves his brother but his resentment begins to grow when Troy takes advantage of his disability to gain preferential treatment. While fictional, this is an honest look at a family's disintegration and ultimate test of love and loyalty.LINKS:Website: https://sites.google.com/site/stevensalmonauthor/
