Chariklo's Prayer

“Then I remembered the words of an old song: ‘Sometimes I close my eyes,and dream of somewhere else. Anywhere away from here…’“And I find myself in a distant forest, walking towards a temple. Andthe earth is green and moist to my feet and there’s sunlight and softrain. But above all, there’s a feeling of peace, a connection tosomething greater. And I stay there for a while until I can let go,unclench and breathe.“That temple courtyard where the trees reach out their branches insupplication. I can take you there.“That place of power, high in the mountains where you can feel thebeyond so close to you, feel it touching you, refreshing you. I can takeyou there.“That beach where the voices of the waves reassure and caress you. Whereyour tired, aching feet are bathed in a spray of soft foam. I can takeyou there.“To that place within, where all your sorrows and travails are blessed.I am Chariklo. I know the way.
