I'm your host, Andrew McGivern, for April 29th.Today, you and I are recognizing two important and oddly connected celebrations: National Supply Chain Day and National Viral Video Day. Now, I know what you’re thinking – supply chains and viral videos? Not exactly peanut butter and jelly... but stick with me.Supply chains are the unsung heroes of daily life. Without them, your morning coffee, your Amazon orders, and yes, even your toilet paper during 2020, would be nothing more than distant dreams. COVID-19 gave supply chains a pretty brutal stress test, with ships backed up for miles and stores running out of everything from flour to bicycles. And if that wasn’t enough, the recent surge in tariffs – thanks to Trump thinking tariff is the most beautiful word in the dictionary has thrown even more wrenches into the gears.Speaking of gears grinding, the ripple effects of these disruptions sparked a pretty remarkable response from Tod Maffin, a Canadian digital marketer and content creator. When the so-called “51st State nonsense” started, Tod started created different content - Canadian content. More specifically, he responded to the tariffs, the smack talk and also highlighted the amazing and united response Canadians had in supporting Canadian companies and products. He posted a video encouraging all the Americans who were flooding his comment sections with support for Canada to do something real about it: Come visit his hometown of Nanaimo, British Columbia, and support the local economy. And guess what? People listened. Hundreds of Americans signed on, and Tod's spontaneous "Nanaimo Infusion" weekend exploded into a national sensation. Media coverage, social media buzz — the whole nine yards. It was the perfect viral storm. Which, fittingly, ties perfectly into National Viral Video Day.So today’s quote feels especially appropriate. It comes from Charles Darwin, who said:"It is not the strongest of the species that survives, nor the most intelligent. It is the one most adaptable to change."Kind of hits the nail on the head, doesn’t it? Supply chains had to adapt. Tod had to adapt. And heck, even Nanaimo had to prepare for an invasion of polite, maple syrup-loving American tourists. So today, as you sip your morning coffee — which traveled across a well-oiled supply chain to reach you — maybe take a second to appreciate not just the survival of the fittest, but the success of the most adaptable. And go watch a viral video or two. Or better yet, create your own content and get it out there. You never know where a simple post might lead. That's it for now. I'm Andrew McGivern, signing off for today but I'll be back tomorrow, same pod time, same pod station with another Daily Quote.
