Born on September 9, 1965, in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, Esten grew up with a love for both music and acting. He attended the College of William & Mary, where he was involved in theater and honed his performance skills. Esten first gained national recognition as a comedian on Whose Line Is It Anyway?, showcasing his quick wit and musical improv talents. However, his breakout role came as Deacon Claybourne on the hit TV series Nashville (2012–2018). His portrayal of the troubled but talented musician won him widespread acclaim and allowed him to blend his acting skills with his passion for country music. Beyond acting, Esten has built a successful music career, regularly performing at the Grand Ole Opry and releasing original music. He holds a Guinness World Record for releasing 54 original songs in 54 weeks. In addition to entertainment, Esten is a dedicated philanthropist, actively supporting the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society, inspired by his daughter’s battle with leukemia. 🟥 Charles Esten played the role of country singer Deacon Claybourne on the drama Nashville from 2012 to 2018, which subsequently kickstarted his own musical career. He also played Ward Cameron on the teen drama series Outer Banks. He appeared in the improvisation show Whose Line Is It Anyway? As a series regular between 1999–2005 and returned with guest appearances from 2017–2020. In 2023, Esten announced the release of ”One Good Move”, the debut single from his upcoming debut studio album, set for independent release later in the year. ”Love Ain’t Pretty” was released as the second single from the album, later revealed to be set for release on January 26, 2024.
