Charlotte Is Cutting Down Its Future
from Charlotte, We Need to Talk Hosted by Charlotte Amateur Politics
Charlotte is growing, but what happens to the trees we lose along the way? We dig into Charlotte’s tree canopy crisis, the rules governing mature tree removal, millions collected in mitigation fees, and whether replacement trees are actually being planted. From a city audit to the fight over preserving Charlotte’s largest trees, we examine what the numbers reveal—and what the city could do differently. Can Charlotte keep building while protecting the trees that make our neighborhoods livable? Charlotte, we need to talk.
