Chawinga Stays, Current Locks Down Star

The KC Current just locked down superstar Temwa Chawinga with a landmark contract through 2029, using the league’s new High Impact Player rule to pay her a record-breaking salary — up to $1 million over the cap — keeping her in Kansas City where she’s already rewritten the NWSL scoring record with 47 goals and 12 assists in just 61 games. A two-time MVP and Golden Boot winner, Chawinga called KC home and praised the city’s support, while the Current now turns attention to other roster upgrades — including a potential deal for Croix Bethune — as they prepare to return from the World Cup break against Gotham FC.
