Chayei Sarah: Musings on Judaism's Response to Animal Suffering
from Machshavah Lab · host Rabbi Matt Schneeweiss
Have any questions, insights, or feedback? Send me a text!In today's Friday morning "Machshavah Lab" shiur for women (11/18/22), we approached a broad topic via a narrow focus. Everyone agrees that the Torah shows concern for Tzaar Baalei Chayim (animal suffering), but the parameters and implications are far from simple. This shiur was prompted by an incident that happened in yeshiva a few weeks ago, and an incident that takes place in this week's parashah. Although it is by no means a comprehensive treatment of the subject, I am confident that it will provide you with some food for thought.-----מקורות:בראשית כד:י-כורמב"ם – משנה תורה: ספר קנין, הלכות עבדים ט:חתורה תמימה שם והערה 18אור החיים - בראשית כד:יטספר חסידים (מרגליות) סימן תקלאשולחן ערוך אורח חיים קסז:ומגן אברהם – שולחן ערוך אורח חיים סימן קסז סעיף קטן יחמפניני הרב – פרשת חיי שרה, דף רעב-רעגחתם סופר - בראשית כד:ידהש"ר הירש - ויקרא יט:כז-----This week's Torah content has been sponsored anonymously, in gratitude for making my Torah available and accessible to everyone.
