我不能不赞美这向晚的五月天；怀抱着云和树那些玲珑的水田。白云穿掠着晴空，像仙岛上的白燕！晚霞正照着它们，白羽镶上了金边。背着轻快的晚凉，牛，放了工，呆着做梦；孩童们在一边蹲；想上牛背，美，逞英雄！在绵密的树荫下，有流水，有白石的桥，桥洞下早来了黑夜，流水里有星在闪耀。绿是豆畦，阴是桑树林，幽郁是溪水傍的草丛，静是这黄昏时的田景，但你听，草虫们的飞动！月亮在昏黄里上妆太阳心慌的向天边跑；他怕见她，他怕她见，——怕她见笑一脸的红糟！
