Born and raised in New Jersey, Chef Kevin Mitchell knew from a young age that he wanted to cook for a living.  He attended the Culinary Institute of America in New York and later went on to hold various positions to include the Marble Gang Restaurant, Wyandotte Restaurant, the Westin Great Southern Hotel, Cornell University, the Westin Detroit Metropolitan Airport Hotel and the MGM Grand Detroit Hotel. He became the first African American chef instructor at Trident Technical College and is also the author of "Taste the State: South Carolina's Signature Foods, Recipes & Their Stories."
