Chicago White Sox to Honor Pope Leo XIV (Morning Air)

from The Best of the Week · host Relevant Radio

Oh yes... this is not a drill. The South Side of Chicago is about to get some attention!    In a recent Morning Air segment, John Morales and Glen Lewerenz let us in on one of the most Chicago Catholic things to ever happen: a White Sox tribute to Pope Leo XIV, who just so happens to be a South Side native and, yep, lifelong Sox fan. 🏟️     📅 Save the Date: June 14th   It’s all happening at Guaranteed Rate Field, home of the White Sox, with:   -A Holy Mass    -Live music   -Film features and in-person stories about Pope Leo   And the Pope himself, via video, delivering a special message to the youth 🎥   This is a big deal. Not just for Catholics, not just for baseball fans... but for Chicago.     🧢 The Sox & the Pope: A Match Made   John and Glen puts it well: the Sox are honoring one of their own. Pope Leo may not be throwing out the first pitch this time, but there’s a standing invite for him to do this whenever he'd like. 🌭🎶   There’s even plans for his message to be broadcast worldwide the next day. So yes, it’s a local event with global flair.      😂 Cubs vs. Sox: Diplomatic Tension   Of course, it wouldn’t be a Chicago sports convo without a little Cubs-Sox jab. Glen playfully asked John if this might finally tip him into Sox fandom. John, ever the peacemaker (and loyal Cubs guy), said he doesn’t root against the Sox... and even attended the 2005 White Sox Championship parade just in case the Cubs never got their own. (Spoiler: they eventually did.) 🎉🐻   The best way to listen to the Best of the Week is on our #1 Free Catholic App. It’s free and always will be!
