from Fargo News Today | 2 Min News | The Daily News Now!
Chief Giles Goose, a legendary scout and warrior of the Great Plains, lived a life of courage and resilience from 1870 to 1915. Serving the U.S. Army along the Missouri River, he guided settlers and traders while leading his people through relocation. He famously discovered Ludlow Cave during Custer’s 1874 expedition, and fought bravely at Little Bighorn in 1876—wounded but vital in battle. Later, he became a mail carrier, served in the all-Native American 9th Cavalry, and was one of the few Native veterans to earn a pension. Even in old age, he chased gold in the Black Hills before passing in 1915, remembered as a true bridge between cultures and eras.
