Both legislations were sold as a way to reduce red tape and streamline processes to get shovels in the ground for major resource extraction and infrastructure projects. However, many First Nations leaders feel the legislation weakens environmental protections, infringes on First Nations' rights and gives unprecedented decision-making powers to politicians.
