Chile condemns US military operation in Venezuela and demands a peaceful way out of the crisis

from Totally Exposed By Navarro Podcast · host Totally Exposed By Navarro

* President Gabriel Boric set Chile’s official position on the US attack, pointing out that the Government “expresses its concern and condemnation of the United States military actions that take place in Venezuela and calls for a peaceful way out of the serious crisis affecting the country.” The message was spread on social networks and in a public statement, in which the Executive reiterated that the Venezuelan crisis should not be resolved through armed operations or under pressure from external actors.* In his statement, the president reaffirmed Chile’s adherence to central principles of international law, such as the proscription of the use of force, non-intervention in the internal affairs of other States, the peaceful settlement of disputes and respect for territorial integrity. For La Moneda, any unilateral military action, such as the one deployed by Washington in Venezuelan territory, constitutes a serious precedent for the region and threatens the stability of Latin America and the Caribbean.* The statement of the Chilean government adds to the reactions of other countries and political blocs that have denounced the US intervention and have called for the immediate cessation of hostilities. In the same vein, Chile insisted that only a process of inclusive dialogue, supported by multilateral mechanisms, will allow a political outlet that addresses the political, social and humanitarian crisis that hits the Venezuelan population.* From Santiago, the call also aims to avoid a further escalation of the conflict and new violations of human rights on the ground. The Chilean Executive stressed that the international community must concentrate its efforts on accompanying credible negotiations between the Venezuelan parties, instead of endorsing or tolerating military actions that may lead to an open confrontation with unpredictable consequences for the region.
