CHILLS: HOUSTON RALLIES, STUNS DUKE IN FINAL FOUR, NATIONAL TITLE BOUND for Florida in March MADNESS

from Locked On Big 12 | Daily College Football & Basketball Podcast · host Locked On Podcast Network

In a Final Four matchup brimming with anticipation, the Houston Cougars pulled off a stunning, come-from-behind victory over the Duke Blue Devils, securing their place in the National Championship game. The final score read 70-67, but the drama unfolded in a way few could have predicted.    For much of the game, Duke, led by the sensational freshman Cooper Flagg, appeared to be in control. Flagg showcased his immense talent, scoring crucial baskets, grabbing rebounds, and even delivering highlight-reel blocks. Duke built a lead that stretched to as many as 14 points in the second half, seemingly poised to advance to the title game. However, the Houston Cougars, known for their tenacious defense and unwavering resilience under Coach Kelvin Sampson, refused to back down. Down the stretch, Houston's veteran squad turned up the defensive intensity to an almost suffocating level. They pressured Duke's ball-handlers, contested every shot, and forced crucial turnovers that swung the momentum.    While their defense was the catalyst, Houston's offense also found its rhythm in the final minutes. Senior guard LJ Cryer, who had been a consistent scoring threat throughout the game, hit key three-pointers to chip away at the Duke lead. The Cougars began to chip away at the lead, fueled by their relentless pressure and timely baskets.    The final minutes were nothing short of breathtaking. With under a minute remaining and Duke clinging to a narrow lead, Houston executed flawlessly. A crucial offensive rebound led to a put-back, bringing them within one point. Then, in the dying seconds, senior forward J'Wan Roberts was fouled and calmly sank both free throws, giving Houston their first lead since the opening minutes of the game.  Duke had one last opportunity, but Houston's defense stood tall, forcing a contested shot that fell short as the buzzer sounded. The Alamodome erupted as the Houston Cougars completed a furious 11-1 run in the final stretch, stunning the heavily favored Duke Blue Devils. The victory was a testament to Houston's experience, grit, and unwavering belief in their defensive identity. They managed to neutralize the potent Duke offense in the crucial moments and capitalize on their opportunities. The stunned silence on the Duke side was palpable, a stark contrast to the jubilant celebrations of the Houston players and their fans.Houston's remarkable comeback secured their spot in the National Championship game, where they will face Florida, setting up an all-Big 12 final. The Cougars' stunning victory over Duke will undoubtedly go down as one of the most memorable finishes in Final Four history.  Support Us By Supporting Our Sponsors!NissanTake your adventures to new heights in the All-New Nissan Armada PRO-4X.
