Hola, Hello ya'll! We had an awesome chismesito with Dra. Nicole Cabrera Salazar, CEO & Founder of Movement Consulting. We talked about her experience/trauma in academia & workforce as a woman in Science. She shares how she went from loving her career to despise it due to the systemic gender/racism still existing in academia and the work place.  She had to make a painful decision to withdraw herself from this environment, in which she was becoming a person she couldn't even recognize,  and reinvent herself and live in her truth.  Why does this chisme matter?  Well, a lot of us have and are there. We are killing ourselves in college and in a workplace that feels excruciating instead of fulfilling. We are developing physical and mental conditions in return of humiliation and non appreciation. Some of us have to constantly fight to get a "sit on the table" with people that don't look like us and don't understand us.  Dra. Nicole Cabrera Salazar is a Latina astronomer who is passionate about social justice in science and technology. After creating multiple initiatives in graduate school for marginalized students, she decided to shift her career away from research to focus on changing the culture of STEM through her company Movement Consulting. Like many marginalized scientists, Dra. Nicole left her field due to a toxic work environment. Determined to make sure others never had to follow in her footsteps, she started Movement Consulting to improve scientific workspaces for people from minoritized groups. We believe the world of science can be better - not in six months or ten years, but now. A world where marginalized people can thrive. A world that values scientists as whole human beings. A world where many worlds fit. To follow Nicole's journey, you can go to : IG: @moveboldly @doctora_nicole www.dranicole.com
