Natalie and Brian came to visit my family in Boston a number of years ago and Natalie shared her origin story with me. She and her brother fled Peru to L.A. when they were young teenagers to escape terrorism. Her parents knew the opportunity in the U.S. would be difficult, foreign and lonely--but required for their survival. So she left her parents and home--her place of love and belonging--in order to live. But then she faced a different fight for survival.
