Choose Gratitude - Rev. Tamara Lebak

from All Souls Unitarian Church · host All Souls Unitarian Church, Tulsa, Oklahoma

Sermon delivered on Sunday, November 4, 2012, at All Souls Unitarian Church in Tulsa, Oklahoma, by Rev. Tamara Lebak, Associate Minister. SERMON DESCRIPTION Author and researcher Dr. Robert Emmons believes he has discovered what gives life meaning: Gratitude. Emmons is a professor at the University of California and supports his claim with research that suggests people who view life as a gift and consciously acquire an “attitude of gratitude” improve their emotional and physical health. According to Emmons, gratitude is a “chosen attitude.” We must be willing to recognize and acknowledge when we are the recipients of an unearned benefit. In our Humanist service at 8:30 a.m., we explore this choice of gratitude. At 10:00 a.m. in the traditional service, the message is further illustrated by a children’s story from the Bhagavad Gita, and in the 11:30 a.m. contemporary service we hear about Jesus’ healing of the lepers in the Gospel of Luke.
