Mark 4:35–41 (ESV) - On that day, when evening had come, he said to them, “Let us go across to theother side.” 36 And leaving the crowd, they took him with them in the boat… 37 And a great windstormarose, and the waves were breaking into the boat, so that the boat was already filling. 38 But he was inthe stern, asleep on the cushion. And they woke him and said to him, “Teacher, do you not care thatwe are perishing?” 39 And he awoke and rebuked the wind and said to the sea, “Peace! Be still!” Andthe wind ceased, and there was a great calm. 40 He said to them, “Why are you so afraid? Have youstill no faith?” 41 And they said to one another, “Who then is this, that even the wind and the sea obeyhim?”1 - PURPOSE - “Let us go across to the other side.”2 - PROBLEM - And a great windstorm arose (“suddenly”), and the waves were breaking intothe boat, so that the boat was already fillingMark 4:37 (MSG) - A huge storm came up. Waves poured into the boat, threatening to sink it.3 - PANIC – “Do you not care that we are perishing?”Perishing – to lose; be lost; to dieSensory perception is the process by which the brain interprets and organizes information gatheredfrom our five senses (sight, hearing, touch, taste, and smell), allowing us to understand and interactwith the worldStorms = nature out of control.4 - PEACE - He awoke and rebuked the wind and said to the sea, “Peace! Be still!” And thewind ceased, and there was a great calm.STORM - Disciples panicking…………… Jesus sleepingPeace – be calmBe still – be quiet… to stop the mouth, make speechless, reduce to silence.
