Choosing Love Today: Grace in the Mess - Episode 7: Standing Together

Have you ever faced something that made you feel like you needed strength you didn’t have? Most of us have. Life has a way of handing us moments that feel bigger than our confidence, heavier than our energy, and more complicated than our plans. And when you’re tired or stretched thin, standing firm can just feel impossible. The church in Corinth knew that feeling well. Corinth wasn’t just messy — it was exhausted. They had conflict. They had division. They had immaturity. They had misunderstandings. They had people pulling in different directions. And they had a pastor, Paul, trying to hold them together from miles away. After addressing all the issues — the pride, the comparison, the lack of love, the misuse of gifts — Paul closes the letter with something simple but powerful: He says, “Be on your guard; stand firm in the faith; be courageous; be strong.” in verse 13. This wasn’t written to individuals. It was written to a church. Stand firm — together. Be strong — together. Be courageous — together. Stay faithful — together. Because messy churches don’t need perfect people… they need committed people. People who stay. People who show up. People who love through the mess. People who stand when things get complicated. And maybe that’s the reminder we need today. Life gets loud. Faith gets tested. Relationships get strained. Church gets complicated. People get messy. And sometimes you feel like you’re standing in the middle of it with shaky knees. But grace gives us the strength to stand. Paul follows that command with something that ties the whole letter together in chapter 16:14 – “Do everything in love.” He didn't some things. He didn't say church things. And not spiritual things. He said.....Everything. Love is the posture. Love is the anchor. Love is the strength behind the courage. Love is the glue that holds messy people together. Let me ask you: Where do you need to stand firm today? Where do you need courage? Where do you need strength? Where do you need love to lead the way instead of frustration or fear?
