Choosing to go No Contact | Remove the Social Taboo When Exercising Personal Agency in Cutting Ties

from Support, Protect, Empower - The Project Purpose Podcast · host Rachelle Innocent

Choosing to go No Contact | Remove the Social Taboo When Exercising Personal Agency in Cutting Ties Some of us are born in toxic dynamics. Though we recognize and articulate that these relationships are not good for us - many feel a sense of obligation to maintaining familial ties. Specifically, maintaining abusive relationships simply because we share a family tree. We know this is true, because of the criticism and the resistance we receive when it is the case that we step out of this paradigm and choose to go no contact. In cases where people would celebrate going no contact with an abusive romantic partner or friend, many still struggle to lend the same support and solidarity if it were that the abuse was coming from a parent or a sibling. Normalizing toxic relationships, just because they're related is something that many of us have done, and to our own detriment. Going no contact is never an easy decision, let's not make it harder for the people who have survived abuse, by creating taboo and disapproval around a decision that ultimately serves to support your mental health and well-being in the long run.
