Christ the King - November 23, 2025

This Sunday is the last Sunday of the Christian year, known as Christ the King Sunday or Reign of Christ Sunday. It is a feast day in the Catholic church, established by Pope Pius XI in 1925, in response to an increase in secularism and ultra-nationalism around the world. For Catholics and Protestants alike, it is a time to remember that ultimate power and authority belong to Christ and when we recommit ourselves to service to God.The gospel reading for this Sunday is Luke’s account of Christ on the cross. Although it may seem strange to read about the crucifixion in late November, this account actually has a lot to teach us about Christ’s compassion, even in the final moments of his life.
