Christmas at LifeWell — Hope
from LifeWell Messages
The opening message of a Christmas series begins not with the manger but with the darkness around it. Reading Isaiah 9 from the dark verses that precede the famous prophecy, the teaching sets the promised child against the backdrop of corrupt leadership and a people in desperate need of hope. Written some seven centuries before Jesus, Isaiah's words make two statements: an honest acknowledgment of brokenness, and the promise of a coming light. Matthew 1 ties that prophecy to Emmanuel, God with us, even in the midst of darkness. The teaching is candid that hope is not the absence of struggle. Drawing on Psalm 23 and Romans 15, it argues that the presence of God meets us in the middle of conflict, often on a longer timeline than we want. Seeing God's faithfulness in the past anchors hope in the present.
