Christmas at LifeWell — Joy

The third Christmas message asks why our joy so often rises and falls with our circumstances, and whether there is a joy that does not fluctuate with the season or situation. It turns to John 1:14 and the incarnation, the Word becoming flesh and moving into the neighborhood. The teaching contrasts every other religion, which it characterizes as work-based, with Christianity as something already done for us through Jesus. One of the great joy robbers is believing we could never be good enough; the gospel removes that burden entirely. From Romans 5:8 , the message insists Christ died for us while we were still sinners, and that God came to us because we could never reach him. Joy is grounded not in answered prayers but in grace and truth, in a God who loves us as we are and loves us too much to leave us there.
