Christmas Calls You to Glory: Day 2, The Promise Keeper

from Pastor Steve’s Daily Devotionals · host Village Church RVA

Christmas Calls You to Glory Day 2: The Promise Keeper Devotional Promises are everywhere during the holiday season. Retailers promise the perfect gift, families promise to stay in touch, and we promise ourselves that next year will be different. But how often do these promises actually deliver? How many times have you been disappointed by broken commitments or unmet expectations? Seven hundred years before Jesus was born, God made an extraordinary promise through the prophet Isaiah. He promised that a virgin would conceive and bear a son who would be called Immanuel - God with us. This wasn’t just any promise; it was a divine commitment that seemed impossible by human standards. Centuries passed. Empires rose and fell. Generations lived and died. Yet God’s promise remained, waiting for the perfect moment to be fulfilled. When Mary conceived Jesus through the Holy Spirit, Matthew recognized this as the direct fulfillment of Isaiah’s ancient prophecy. God had kept His word exactly as He said He would. This matters more than you might realize. In a world where promises are broken daily, where people let us down and circumstances disappoint us, we have a God who has never failed to keep His word. The birth of Jesus isn’t just a beautiful story - it’s proof that when God makes a promise, He follows through. Your hope this Christmas doesn’t rest on human promises or perfect circumstances. It rests on the character of a promise-keeping God who demonstrated His faithfulness in the most miraculous way possible. Bible Verse Therefore the Lord himself will give you a sign. Behold, the virgin shall conceive and bear a son, and shall call his name Immanuel. - Isaiah 7:14 Reflection Question What promises from God do you need to trust more fully, especially when human promises around you have been broken or disappointed you? Quote “The hope of Christmas is found in God keeping His promises.” Prayer Father, thank You for being a God who keeps His promises. When I’m tempted to doubt Your faithfulness because of broken human promises, help me remember that You fulfilled Your word through Jesus. Strengthen my trust in Your unchanging character. Amen.
