Christmas Calls You to Inconvenience: Day 1, When God Interrupts Your Plans
from Pastor Steve’s Daily Devotionals · host Village Church RVA
Christmas Calls You to Inconvenience Day 1: When God Interrupts Your Plans Devotional Have you ever had your life completely turned upside down by unexpected news? Mary certainly did. One ordinary day in Nazareth, a young woman with simple dreams of marriage and family received a visit that would change everything. The angel Gabriel didn’t come with a convenient request or an easy assignment. He came with news that would disrupt every plan Mary had made for her future. We often think that following God should make our lives smoother, more predictable. But Mary’s story teaches us something different. When God calls us, He rarely asks permission to rearrange our comfortable plans. He doesn’t wait for the perfect timing in our schedules. Instead, He invites us into something far greater than what we could have imagined for ourselves. Mary faced potential scandal, broken relationships, and an uncertain future. Yet in that moment of divine interruption, she was being invited into the greatest story ever told. Sometimes what feels like God ruining our plans is actually Him rescuing us from a smaller story and inviting us into His magnificent purposes. The same God who chose Mary is still choosing ordinary people today for extraordinary purposes. He’s not looking for perfect people with perfect plans. He’s looking for availability. Bible Verse In the sixth month the angel Gabriel was sent from God to a city of Galilee named Nazareth, to a virgin betrothed to a man whose name was Joseph, of the house of David. And the virgin’s name was Mary. - Luke 1:26-27 Reflection Question What comfortable plans or dreams are you holding onto so tightly that you might be missing God’s greater purpose for your life? Quote “God will ruin your life. God will disrupt whatever good thing you think you have going. The calling of God will inconvenience you and more.” Prayer Lord, help me to hold my plans with open hands. When You interrupt my comfortable life with Your calling, give me the courage to trust that Your purposes are always better than my own. Prepare my heart to say yes to You, even when I don’t understand the full picture. Amen.
