Christmas Calls You to Inconvenience: Day 5, Living for Generations Beyond Yourself
from Pastor Steve’s Daily Devotionals · host Village Church RVA
Christmas Calls You to Inconvenience Day 5: Living for Generations Beyond Yourself Devotional Mary’s obedience wasn’t just about her. Her willingness to say yes to God’s inconvenient calling became the doorway through which salvation entered the world. Every person who has ever found hope in Jesus can trace that hope back to a young woman who chose trust over comfort. This perspective transforms how we view our own calling. We’re not just living for ourselves or even for our immediate families. Our obedience to God today creates ripple effects that will impact people we’ll never know. The question isn’t whether God will use our lives—it’s whether we’ll let Him use them for purposes bigger than our personal comfort. Mary’s example challenges us to examine where we’re holding back from God’s calling. Maybe you dream of learning theology but won’t serve on Sunday mornings. Perhaps you envision building something lasting but won’t commit to your local church community. We want the vision without the investment, the purpose without the inconvenience. But lasting impact requires present sacrifice. Mary was inconvenienced and trusted God anyway—and that’s why we remember her. Her legacy wasn’t built on a comfortable life but on a surrendered one. Consider this: What part of your life are you protecting from God’s inconvenient calling? What dreams is He asking you to surrender so He can give you something infinitely better? Your willingness to trust Him today might just change the world for generations to come. Bible Verse And he brought him outside and said, “Look toward heaven, and number the stars, if you are able to number them.” Then he said to him, “So shall your offspring be.” And he believed the Lord, and he counted it to him as righteousness. - Genesis 15:5-6 Reflection Question What legacy of faith do you want to leave for future generations? Quote “Worship doesn’t wait for some certainty about future circumstances. It grows in the middle of your obedience.” Prayer Father, help me live with an eternal perspective, understanding that my obedience today can impact generations. Give me the courage to surrender my comfort for Your greater purposes. Amen.
