Hello, welcome back to another episode of Broken Record. My name is Ellie, I'm your host, and today we're going to be talking about Christmas music. Christmas is quickly approaching. Friday is the beginning of winter break for our school.
Hanukkah has already come and gone, but we are still celebrating. And I just want to talk about some Christmas albums and songs that I absolutely adore to listen to during this time of year. So I'm going to talk about three albums, which are White Christmas by Bing Crosby, The Christmas Song by Night King Cole, and Christmas Portrait Special Edition by The Carpenters. All three of those I've just grown up listening to.
They're absolutely iconic. They're outstanding. My favorite song from White Christmas, Bing Crosby, is White Christmas. So here's a clip.
So as you can tell, that has some nice old-timey feels. All the magical music in his old voice just sounds so incredible, and I love it so much. And that's another reason why I have Nat King Cole in The Carpenters' arm, because I love the sound of their voices. And so my favorite song from The Christmas Song by Nat King Cole, that album, is again the title track, The Christmas Song, by Nat King Cole.
So, as you can tell, Nat King Cole, outstanding voice. I absolutely love listening to his music. It is so incredible. And it's even better that it's holiday-themed.
Nat King Cole just has the most amazing, amazing voice. I would love, love, love to hear it more in my life. It's outstanding. I love listening to his voice.
The next one I want to talk about is Christmas Portrait Special Edition by The Carpenters. And my favorite song from Nat is Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas, and here's a clip. Christmas future is far away. Christmas past is past.
As you can tell, The Carpenters have an outstanding voice. Their music is so magical, and I love listening to all three of those Christmas albums. And another Christmas song I like listening to is Frank Sinatra's cover of It Came Upon a Midnight Clear. It came upon the midnight clear, that glorious song of old...
So, Frank Sinatra is another one of those iconic voices. You know his name, you know his voice, you know his songs. And I absolutely, like, am so happy that he has some Christmas songs, because I love listening to, like, old, like, slow Christmas songs. And it's, like, it brings me a lot of joy, and I'm very glad that he is on the list of artists that have released, like, slower Christmas songs.
And a sad Christmas song that I like to listen to, that is just iconic from my childhood, is Christmas by Can't I Find You by James Horner and Taylor Monson. This is played in The Grinch. Cindy Lou Who sings it. This is a version with Jim Carrey, and I love this song.
It's kind of sad, but it's so cute, and Cindy Lou Who singing this song in the movie is just adorable. So, here's a little bit of that. Where are you, Christmas? Why can't I find you?
Why can't you gone away? So, this is a really adorable song. I think that it's super cute. And Taylor Monson's voice, when she recorded this, is just the cutest thing ever.
It brings a smile to my face hearing her baby voice. Another song, so, I've been talking a lot about celebrity songs, and so, I have two Christmas playlists. One of them is, like, older Christmas songs, more classic songs. And then I have another playlist that is also classic Christmas songs, but it's also, like, more upbeat and move around a little bit more, more released more recently songs.
So, I'm going to talk about a couple of those. First one is Happy X-mas Wars Over by John Lennon and Yoko Ono. This is also just an iconic Christmas song that you hear on the radio all the time. So, here is a clip.
So, this is Christmas, and what have you done? Another year over, and you won't just be gone. So, that one is so good. I love listening to it.
Next one I want to talk about is possibly the most iconic Christmas song for my generation. It constantly is played. There's, like, TikToks of people using this song, where, like, they show, like, the demographic, not the demographic, the, like, analytics, analytics, I don't know how you say it, but you know what I'm trying to say, the data of, like, when the song is listened to, or, like, how much the song is listened to over the year, and, like, it's flat, January, February, March, April, May, June, July, August, September, October, November, and then December 1st. It just automatically spikes up to, like, a million, and it's really funny.
So, I'm sure you guessed it, but it's All I Want For Christmas Is You by Mariah Carey, and I'm going to play, like, the iconic opening sound. I'm sorry to cut you off there, but it obviously is an iconic song. Um, definitely listened to year-round in some households. Um, the next one I want to talk about is by Kelly Clarkson.
It's called Underneath the Tree, and I love listening to it because it's just so happy and peppy, and it makes me happy. So, here's a clip. Yeah, I love that song. It's so cute.
I love it. Um, the last song I want to talk about is an iconic song within the Sather family household. I'm sure you've heard of it. It's called Last Christmas by Wham!, and it's quite amazing.
So, great song. Um, I love listening to that song. That's one of the songs that my mom introduced me to. Like, we were listening, we were, like, switching through the channels on the radio, and my mom was like, oh my gosh, you have to listen to the song.
And so we did, and it was a great one, and we continue to play it every year. Um, next song came out a lot more recently. Um, Ariana Grande. She sings it.
It's called Santa Tell Me. I think this is her most popular Christmas song. Um, I don't really listen to Ariana Grande a lot, but I, however, will listen to Santa Tell Me quite often because it's fun. So, here's a clip.
Great song. Great beat to it. Love the jingle bells. Um, I love listening to that song.
I was, I was listening, I was listening to it in the car with my mom on the way to see the new Eternals movie in Marvel, and it was really funny because my mom doesn't know the song, but she loves Christmas music, so she was, like, trying to get into it, but it just wasn't working. Um, it's fine, though. She'll get it. She'll learn it.
Um, the next song I want to talk about is another iconic song by another iconic band, and it is called Little Saint Nick, and the Beach Boys sing it. And here's a clip. I love that song. I love their harmonies in that song.
It's so good. It makes me happy. Um, next one I want to talk about is called Snowman by Sia. Snowman by Sia is, again, a really new Christmas song, and it's not very popular.
Um, I mean, it's popular, but it's not as popular as, like, Mary, like, you know, like Bing Crosby and Mariah Carey. All I want for Christmas is Sia. They didn't sing it together. I worked it like they sang it together, but they didn't.
Um, but it is Snowman by Sia. The chorus tickles my brain in the best way possible, and it's so good, and I love it, and the lyrics are brilliant, and I really want you to hear it, so I'm going to play it for you. So, as you can tell, that chorus just really hits my brain in the right spot. I love listening to it.
I think the lyrics are genius, um, specifically because I'm Mrs. Snow till death will be freezing. What? Play on death do us part?
I love that lyric. I think that's so brilliant. Um, I just love it. And then another one that's a play on an old song is called Your Mean One, Mr.
Grinch. It's by Tyler, the Creator. He did a couple songs for the new Grinch animated movie that came out a couple years ago with Benedict Cumberbatch as the Grinch. Um, Tyler, the Creator made the song, and I love listening to it.
Um, I think it's a really cool play on the old version. So, here is a clip. So, as you can tell, it's like, like, you know the lyrics, but, like, they're, like, organized differently. I don't know.
I love that song. I think it's so cool. Um, because, for me personally, it's really hard to imagine already created songs in a different format and, like, with a different production and stuff. And so, hearing someone do that is so cool to me.
I think, ugh, I'm jealous of them, and they're really to do that. Um, the last song I want to talk about is called Christmas Reformed by Taylor Swift. Um, I love this song. I think it's so cute.
And I also love the chorus. It makes me, remind me, it reminds me of, like, a little snow glow. Um, so, here's a clip. In my heart is a Christmas reform where the people will come.
To dance on those far goes in life. Under love in their mittens and coats. And the sight of the flow. And I just want to be there tonight.
I love that song. Um, that's one of, I think that is my favorite of the newer songs. Of the newer Harley songs that have come out recently. Um, I love listening to it.
I love Taylor Swift. I love it. She made a Christmas song. Um, she covered Last Christmas a little bit ago.
And that was also good. I love it. She created her own song, though. I think that's so cool.
Because creating Christmas songs is so hard. Because, like, they have so many classics already. And there's so many people who, like, cover the classics. And that's great.
But then, like, creating your own Christmas song on top of that is so impressive. Because there's a lot of people who only want to stick to the classics. And so if you make a new song, and it does well. That's just, like, the biggest accomplishment ever.
Um, yes. Thank you so much for listening. Um, I hope you either found a new Christmas song to listen to. Or you rediscovered a Christmas song.
Or maybe you knew all of them already. And that's okay, too. Um, yeah. Thank you so much for listening.
