竹棚（或稱搭棚）的歷史在中國非常悠久，並且在香港發展出獨特的文化和技術。在1960、70年代香港經濟起飛和建築業快速發展時期，結構分明、井然有序的施工竹棚大量出現，成為當時高樓大廈興建時的標誌性景象。2017年，戲棚搭建技藝正式列入「香港非物質文化遺產代表作名錄」。同年，搭棚工藝成為澳門非物質文明遺產。竹棚不僅是一種實用的建築技術，更在香港的建築歷史和文化認同中佔據了重要地位。
