CIA Briefs Reveal Bin Laden’s WMD Plans | Miami News

The CIA just dumped a treasure trove of declassified presidential daily briefs from 1998 to the day before 9/11, revealing how intelligence agencies tracked bin Laden’s hunt for WMDs and his plans to hijack planes. Documents show officials knew he was eyeing chemical and biological weapons—and even discussed explosive-laden aircraft attacks—with reports of operatives training at U.S. airports. One 1998 brief even noted the Taliban’s refusal to hand him over, viewing him as a valued ally. While nothing here unveils new secrets about the 9/11 attacks themselves, it’s a powerful reminder of the intelligence landscape then—and the ongoing push for transparency through declassification efforts alongside interviews from past administrations.
