CIA Director Secretly Visits Moscow | US News

CIA Director John Ratcliffe made an unannounced trip to Moscow — his first since taking charge — sparking global intrigue as a U.S. Air Force plane and diplomatic convoy arrived simultaneously. With no official details released, the visit hints at renewed backchannel talks amid stalled Ukraine peace efforts. Ratcliffe’s history of engaging Russian intel, including helping secure high-profile prisoner swaps, adds weight to the speculation. His move echoes predecessor William Burns’ 2021 Moscow trip, which coincided with warnings of a looming Russian invasion — underscoring how delicate and consequential these behind-the-scenes interactions remain.
