Circle of Security Model of Parenting

Jenn Birth is an important part of our community here in Raleigh. She helps our family and so many other families by how she teaches us to wisely parent our children. She communicates clearly about the relationship between children, emotions, and security.Last year, I was able to take her parenting class. Last week she graciously came on my podcast to talk parenting. In our conversation, she often expressed compassion and empathy, being a mom of four kids herself, that this past year has been very difficult for children and their emotions. She said children will have a great range of emotions for many, many years following this pandemic. She hopes parents learn to “be the hands” to their kids. Being the hands means being a safe place where kids can express all their emotions. Jenn promotes the Circle of Security model. This model allows kids to explore the world and then return home to the hands of secure and emotionally available parents. The model calls for parents to be bigger, stronger, wiser, and kind.
