Civil society calls for rethink of AU convention on violence against women

African feminists, women’s rights organisations and civil society groups are calling for a pause in the adoption of the African Union Convention on Ending Violence Against Women and Girls. While supporting stronger protections for women, they warn that the current draft could weaken existing frameworks, including the Maputo Protocol.
