Civil society calls for rethink of AU convention on violence against women
from Kaya 959 · host Phemelo Motene
African feminists, women’s rights organisations and civil society groups are calling for a pause in the adoption of the African Union Convention on Ending Violence Against Women and Girls. While supporting stronger protections for women, they warn that the current draft could weaken existing frameworks, including the Maputo Protocol. Protestors are urging African leaders to “pause, listen, revise, strengthen, then ratify.” Phemelo speaks to Initiative for Strategic Litigation in Africa Executive Director Sibongile Ndashe about the concerns and what civil society wants changed. www.kaya959.co.za · Kayafm
