Clare MEP Claims Ireland's Commitment To Rule Of Law "All Fur Coat"

from Clare FM · host Clare FM

A Clare MEP claims Ireland's commitment to the rule of law is "all fur coat". The Taoiseach has backed Justice Minister Jim O'Callaghan in a row over changes to the legal aid fees system. A total of 55 solicitors have resigned from the criminal legal aid panel following the introduction of a new fee structure which sees an increased one-off fee instead of payments per appearance. Addressing Fianna Fáil Minister of State Thomas Byrne in the European Parliament, Scariff Independent MEP Michael McNamara says the criminal justice system is "grinding to a halt".
