Ezra 8:15-18 Introduction The Babylonian captivity of 70 years was about to come to an end. (2 Chronicles 36:17-21; Jeremiah 25:11- 14; Daniel 9:2) The result It drove Daniel to his knees (Daniel 9). God has willed to act when His people pray and the spirit of prayer and supplication is poured out on those who see the need. They were carried away on account of their departure from God. The Lord had in mind recovery and revival, providing for it by His way in government. The Current State of the House of God A remnant return from Babylon (Ezra 1-2) The temple building began (Ezra 3-4) The building completed (Ezra 5-6) The Collective Call Ezra, a ready scribe in the law of Moses. The hand of the Lord his God was upon him. Ezra prepared his heart to seek, to do, and to teach the law. Ezra gathered at the river that runs to Ahava and found none of the sons of Levi. He then sent for men of understanding, looking for ministers for the house of God; their consecration is seen in Numbers 8, and their function in Numbers 4. The Individual Call They brought a man of understanding. Do we understand our responsibility to function for the pleasure of God? In reestablishing what the mind of God is in relation to His house. Can you be sent for? Do you know the law of our God? Are you ready when the call comes?
