Classes in Contentment

from Hope-Full Living · host Robert Stephens

Paul knew repeated hardship yet learned to be ever content. I often questioned how. Until that day in the den ... On this particular visit, I found my mother resting on the sofa and told her I had something special to show her. Immediately curious, she opened the folder and gazed upon her granddaughter’s “high school graduation” photo. I will never forget her reaction. She was recently told nothing more could be done in combatting the cancer; she knew her earthly end was near. And yet, no sadness. No despair. Simply a joy filled “O-o-o-h!” and a smile melting my heart. What I’d long expected, now confirmed. Like Paul, she too, had learned (and claimed) ongoing contentment. May all God’s children ultimately join in affirming Solomon’s God-given wisdom: “The fear of the Lord leads to life; then one rests content, untouched by trouble” (Proverbs 19:23 NIV).
