Classroom Staff Management Podcast

from Teaching Autism and Special Education by Nikki · host Teaching Autism

Today on the podcast I’m discussing classroom staff management. Within the field of special education and autism classrooms, we often have to work closely, in larger teams than usual classrooms. And sometimes, we’re all human, and we find it difficult to get along. Or, you may have a team of paraprofessionals who are new to this area of speciality and need some help and guidance. You may have a great team, but you want to find ways to help guide your teaching assistants and paraprofessionals to achieve their dreams. This classroom staff management podcast is a must listen for any teacher – or even paraprofessionals and assistants! So that you can learn about the importance of team work. And also to help your team keep running professionally and healthily for your classroom. In today’s podcast, I’m discussing; Everyone is equal. How to make your paraprofessionals/assistants feel involved. Taking pressure away from yourself Giving your paraprofessionals/assistants areas of responsibility. Ways to help your team start off on the right foot. How to decompress together after a tough day. Being the ear to listen to. How to show your appreciation. The importance of communication. Thanking them. Being a role model for your students. Working as a ‘we.’ Helping your assistants achieve their dreams. Working together in a small space, for such a long period of time, can be tough. But no matter how challenging the year is, if you have a strong team – you can get through anything. Encourage open and honest relationships. Maintain a professional but positive and friendly relationship. You need to have each others back and be a support system.
