She holds a Ph.D. in humanities from Western Sydney University, Australia. An academic and activist for social justice, she has been working with collectives and organizations concerned with community and Indigenous communication in Latin America for more than twenty years. Her research is centred on the participatory evaluation and planning of Indigenous and community media and communication projects, media activism and communication for social change.
